
After controversy, petitions, and push-back, the long-debated “Washington Redskins” have announced a name change. The team will temporarily go by the name “Washington Football Team” until a permanent replacement is found.
The team hopes to be entirely rid of their old name (both digitally and physically) within the next 50 days.
This change comes after various Native American petitions and push-back from big-time companies such as FedEx, Nike, Target, Walmart, and Amazon. FedEx threatened to pull all branding and signage from their stadium, with the four retailers listed above removed team gear from their websites.
Four of new name possibilities include, “Washington Warriors,” “Washington Redtails,” “Washington Skins,” “Washington Federals,” and “Washington Griffins.” Vote in the comments below.
