Lady A Sues Lady A: The Lady Antebellum Name Fiasco
After a mid-June name change announced by Lady A [formerly Lady Antebellum], Seattle blues solo singer Lady A has gotten caught in the crossfire. Lady Antebellum decided on the name change after receiving criticism for “romanticizing the pre-war, slavery-ridden American South” [rollingstone.com]. Solo artist Lady A, however, had already been performing under the name for 20 years. She had both recorded and released music under “Lady A.”
61-year-old blues singer “Lady A” sought $10,000,000 in damages from Lady Antebellum, stating that
