RIP Naya Rivera: Actress Likely Saved Son Before Passing On

RIP Naya Rivera. The actress, known for her role in the hit television series Glee, passed away last week. Her body was found in a California lake two days ago.

Rivera rented a boat for an afternoon on the water with her young son, Josey. They planned to get in the water and swim. Later that day, four-year-old Josey was found asleep on the drifting boat, while his mother was nowhere in sight. Josey was wearing a life jacket and another, adult-sized jacket was on the boat, unused. Naya’s body was found six days later.

Sheriff Ayub stated that “[Josey] and Naya swam in the lake together at some point during their journey. It was during that time that her son described being helped into the boat by Naya. He told investigators that he looked back and saw her disappear under the surface of the water [. . .] It would be speculation to say at this point, [but] there are a lot of currents on the lake that appear particularly in the afternoon. We believe it was mid-afternoon when she disappeared, the idea perhaps being that the boat started drifting – it was unanchored – and that she mustered enough energy to get her son back on to the boat, but not enough to save herself.”
