Weeknd Off the Hook: Yeasayer Drops Lawsuit
The Weeknd is off the financial hook. In February of 2020, the band Yeasayer filed a lawsuit against the Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Doc McKinney and Frank Dukes [producers], UMG, Interscope, Aftermath, and Top Dawg Entertainment for alleged copyright infringement. Yeasayer [a band from Brooklyn] claimed that the song “Pray for Me” contained a “distinctive choral performance” and “male voices singing in their highest registers, with animated, pulsing vibrato,” similar to their own song, “Sunrise.”
Check out the tracks below:
Yeasayer has just voluntarily dismissed their claim and, according to New York federal court documents, “confirmed to their satisfaction that no copyright infringement occurred.”
