Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx has confirmed that he will play Mike Tyson in an upcoming biographical film about the life of the former American heavyweight boxer.
The release of the highly anticipated film, with Foxx in the lead role, was first announced in 2014, but after a six-year hiatus, there was some question as to whether it would be done.
Speaking to Hollywood producer Mark Birnbaum in an Instagram Live interview on Thursday, the 52-year-old actor, who is also a comedian, singer, and producer, put an end to those rumors, revealing that he had been increasing his muscle mass on a regimen of exhausting exercise in preparation for filming.
Foxx said “I saw him at the height of his career, and then when things got bad and bumpy, I also saw him. So what I’m excited about the movie is showing those moments,” he added.
“I think everyone, young and old, will be able to understand this man’s journey.”
The actor shared a photograph where a huge change in his muscle mass can be seen, showing that Foxx is taking the role of the legendary boxer very seriously.
