George Floyd Case Update: All 4 Police Officers Face New Charges

After more than a week, and the outbreak of hundreds of protests nationwide, the state of Minnesota filed new charges against the 4 police officers involved in the death of George Floyd.

Keith Ellison, the Minnesota attorney general, announced that former police officer Derek Chauvin is now charged with second-degree murder. The other 3 officers: Thomas Lane, JA Keung, and Tou Thao have also been arrested and charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

The bail for each of the officers was set at $ 1 million; the official charges against Chauvin are second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.

The state of Minnesota currently recommends a 12 and a half year sentence on the unintentional charge. An intentional charge carries a heavier sentence of 25 and a half years in prison.

After George Floyd was assassinated on May 25, the people of the United States took to the streets to demand justice and pressure the Minnesota government to give a harsher sentence to the police officers who participated in George Floyd’s murder.

This crime had a global impact, causing millions of people worldwide to raise their voices to protest against racial crimes and the injustice that still exists in the United States.

After the new charges were known, several Hip Hop stars used their social networks to comment on it.
