G. Herbo, a Chicago hip-hop artist, is assisting in improving conditions in the Cook County Jail. As of May 14, 2020, seven inmates had died after having been diagnosed with COVID-19, as well as one court deputy and two corrections officers. 236 other inmates in the jail had tested positive for the virus.
Because jails and prisons are so populated and enclosed, social distancing proves to be a serious challenge. Germs circulate within the windowless facilities.
Herbo, in partnership with the Alliance for Safety and Justice [click here] and its project “Time Done” [click here] is tackling the issue head-on. 20,000 masks were set to be delivered to the facility.
